Relief over recovery money

Cabonne Mayor Kevin Beatty has welcomed the Australian Government's decision not to proceed with proposed changes to disaster recovery funding. Council unanimously backed advocacy against the reforms in August. Analysis for Cabonne found Commonwealth funding could have fallen by more than $4.6 million under the proposed model. Two infrastructure betterment projects, which secured more than $7.4 million, could also have received only a fraction of that amount. Council will again sponsor the Australian National Field Days, held from 22 to 24 October.

Do you know where to find an AED?

An online map shows 21 registered defibrillators across Cabonne towns, including Eugowra, Cudal, Manildra, Yeoval, Cumnock, Canowindra and Molong. NSW Ambulance chief executive Clare Beech said each minute without CPR cuts a cardiac arrest patient's survival chance by seven to 10 per cent. A new GoodSAM CPR playlist on Spotify matches songs to the recommended compression rate of 100 to 120 per minute. People aged 18 and over can register as GoodSAM responders without formal CPR qualifications. Device access varies, and map listings may be incomplete or outdated.

Time to care for carers

Carers NSW is urging people in Cabonne to recognise unpaid carers during National Carers Week, which runs from 11 to 17 October. Simple acts such as preparing meals, grocery shopping, giving rides to appointments or sitting with a care recipient can give carers a break. Preliminary results from the 2026 Carer Wellbeing Survey show 65 per cent of young carers feel their caring duties have cost them part of their childhood, up from 54 per cent in 2025. Carers Australia chief executive Joanna Cave said young carers should not be disadvantaged for taking on a caring role.
