Temporary bulk waste closure at Fremantle Recycling Centre

The bulk waste area at Fremantle Recycling Centre will close temporarily from Friday 30 October for upgrade works. It is due to reopen on Friday 13 November 2026, while other areas stay open as usual. Residents of the City of Fremantle and Town of East Fremantle are asked to keep their bulk waste until then. Anyone arriving with general bulk junk during the closure must take it home. Residents of both councils can instead book a Verge Valet collection or use the City of Cockburn's landfill facility, where fees apply.

Nedlands considers switch to pricier on-demand verge collections after major delays to bulk collection service

Nedlands could move to a more expensive on-demand model for bulk waste verge collections, which have been delayed. The delay followed a sharp rise in contractor costs, with the previous contractor seeking an increase the council called excessive and unjustifiable. Three submissions were received for on-demand loose verge collection, and a recommendation will go to council next week. Under the proposed system, the estimated annual cost to the city would rise to about $726,262, from about $490,494 last year. Officers say the pre-booked system would reduce illegal dumping.

Verge Valet could be returning to Subiaco after rubbish service costs double

Booked hard waste collections could return to the City of Subiaco after the cost of its current scheduled collection service was expected to double. City officers have recommended contracting the Western Metropolitan Regional Council for a resident-booked Verge Valet service twice a year. This is expected to save the city about $28,600 a year. The council will consider the recommendation at its October 20 meeting. The current contract ends on December 7.
