Walking basketball fun

Seniors took part in a morning of walking basketball at Keilor Basketball Netball Stadium on Wednesday 21 October. The relaxed session let players enjoy the game at their own pace, with no running, jumping or physical contact. The session was part of the Brimbank Seniors Festival, which runs throughout October. The festival celebrates residents aged 60 and over and First Nations community members aged 50 and over, with activities that promote connection, participation and wellbeing.

Stepping up for a day

Two Brimbank youth council members, Maria Ansari, 15, and Zoe Goldenberg, 17, served as the council's inaugural young mayors alongside Mayor Virginia Tachos on Wednesday 23 September. Their day included a round table discussion on Melbourne's west and a visit to Parliament House to meet Premier Ben Carroll. The pair also met council executives, councillors and staff. They ended the day by giving a speech in the Council Chamber. Ansari said young people need passion and courage rather than lots of experience to lead.
