Young riders lose makeshift jumps as calls grow for BMX park

The City of Greater Geelong has begun removing makeshift bike jumps in Armstrong Creek, citing safety and environmental concerns. Four jumps had been taken down by midday on Monday, and temporary fencing was installed around part of the site near Dooliebeal Reserve. City chief executive Ali Wastie said the jumps were in hard-to-reach areas, making access difficult for emergency responders. Local father Rhett Bardon described the children's efforts as resourceful and called for a dedicated bike park. A petition has been launched seeking a park closer to the growing suburb.

Cape Woolamai secures half million dollar funding for pump track

The Sunnyside Reserve Pump Track at Cape Woolamai has received a $400,000 state government grant. Bass Coast Shire Council is contributing $143,870 to the project. The idea was first raised in 2018 by local resident David Manning, and a petition later gathered more than 800 signatures. The track will suit mountain bikes, BMX bikes, skateboards and scooters. Council will begin detailed design work, with construction due to start mid-next year.
