Police investigating after Badlands Bar in near-miss with ‘large blaze’ in Perth’s CBD

A fire ran up the side of Badlands Bar, a late-night music venue in Northbridge, in Perth. Police were called to the blaze near McIver Station at about 4.20am on Thursday. The fire spread through nearby vegetation before reaching the building. It is understood the venue has not suffered serious damage, with flames only reaching the exterior wall. Police are investigating the cause, which is not thought to be suspicious at this stage.

‘Ridiculous proposal’: Brisbane ferry bar plan slammed by unions over workload and safety concerns

Maritime unions have criticised a Brisbane City Council proposal to install licensed bars on 10 double-decker CityCat ferries. The council is exploring a pilot program and hopes to trial it next year, though details such as opening hours and staffing are still being worked out. The Maritime Union of Australia and the Australian Maritime Officers Union say the plan was made without consulting crew. They warn it would add workload and safety risks for crews already under strain in a long-running pay dispute with RiverCity Ferries.

The Commons gives after-work drinks an unlimited-fries twist

The Commons is launching an after-work offer at its Collins Street bar in Melbourne. From 4pm on Thursdays and Fridays, anyone ordering a classic or signature cocktail can add bottomless fries. The offer is open to members and the public alike. Fries come with a rotating range of seasonings and house-made sauces. Chef Frank Berardi designed a new share-plate menu built around drinks, as the venue shifts from daytime coworking to an evening bar.
