Oopsie, council forgets to include key document in annual report

Bass Coast Shire Council's administration left a signed Auditor-General's report out of the 2025-2026 Annual Report before a council meeting on Wednesday, October 21. Local council watcher Graham Jolly spotted the omission in the agenda papers and submitted a question about it, which was not answered during Community Question time. Councillor Thomson moved to defer the item, and the matter was put to a vote without explanation. Mr Jolly argued the original motion, which would have let the CEO add the statements later, could breach the Local Government Act.

Doubts raised over Bass Coast Shire annual report

Doubts have emerged over whether Bass Coast Shire Council can properly adopt its annual report at its meeting on Wednesday, October 21. Council watcher Graham Jolly argued the statements must be included before adoption, rather than delegated to the chief executive. Councillors had proposed delegating the task to CEO Greg Box, who said the matter would be addressed later in the meeting.
