Convicted murderer Daniel Billings has lodged a notice of appeal against his sentence in the NSW Supreme Court. Billings was sentenced to a maximum of 28 years for killing Molly Ticehurst, 28, in her Forbes home. He must serve at least 20 years before he is eligible for parole. Premier Chris Minns called Billings a bastard and said he would have liked to see a longer sentence. Billings will be eligible for parole on April 19, 2044.
Prosecutors have decided not to appeal the 28-year prison sentence handed to Daniel Billings for murdering Molly Ticehurst. Billings, 31, pleaded guilty to stabbing Ms Ticehurst to death at her home in Forbes in April 2024. The sentence includes a non-parole period of 20 years. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said its decision followed careful consideration of the case. Local independent MP Phil Donato called the decision a gross injustice, and NSW Premier Chris Minns said the sentence was inadequate.
NSW prosecutors will not challenge the 28-year maximum sentence handed to Daniel Billings for murdering Molly Ticehurst. The decision was made under prosecution guidelines. Justice Natalie Adams set a non-parole period of 20 years, finding Billings killed his former girlfriend out of revenge and extreme hatred after she reported sexual assault allegations to police. Ticehurst was stabbed 15 times in Forbes in April 2024. Her mother, Kate Shaw, has urged Premier Chris Minns to release a government report into Ticehurst's contact with the Staying Home Leaving Violence scheme. Billings will be 49 when he is eligible for parole.
