The source material provided is almost entirely navigation menus, section headings and site links, with no story body describing Riley Shawcross or the Telethon 2026 appeal. The only substantive information available is the headline itself, which identifies Riley Shawcross as a Western Australian girl described as a one-in-100-million child and frames her story as one of bravery. Beyond that, no details about her condition, treatment, family, fundraising connection or outcomes can be confirmed from the text supplied, so the summary cannot responsibly elaborate on them.

Sandalwood industry left in limbo as WA government mulls new rules

Sandalwood producers in Western Australia say the government has not clearly explained what will replace the current harvesting order, which expires at the end of this year. The order allows 2,500 tonnes of wild sandalwood to be harvested each year. A proposed shift of oversight from the Forest Products Commission to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has left harvesters and exporters uncertain about future investment. Premier Roger Cook says the government is consulting widely. Some producers, including oil maker Dutjahn, say the transition has been expected and that the industry has had time to prepare.

Goldfields Repertory Club keeps fighting to fund $6.5 million rebuild

The future of the Goldfields Repertory Club remains uncertain as volunteers work to raise $6.5 million to rebuild its run-down Brookman Street theatre. The 95-year-old club received $50,000 of the $97,000 it asked for from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Vice-president Norma Latchford said the club will now approach local companies for support. Significant deterioration has ruled out renovation, so a full rebuild is the only option. A $50,000 grant will fund a $195,000 project to prepare construction plans, which would allow the club to seek larger grants.

Telethon 2026: Sodexo workers don tiaras and capes inspired by former little star Izzy Miller

Resource sector workers across Western Australia are trading hard hats for tiaras and capes this October to raise funds for Telethon. Sodexo teams and camp residents at more than 70 sites are taking part, inspired by six-year-old Izzy Miller, who started Tiara Tuesdays while in hospital. Other fundraising activities include trivia nights, music bingo and pool and darts tournaments, with every dollar going directly to Telethon. Izzy's mother, Kim, said the support has brought pride and comfort to the family.

UC Capitals coach Paul Goriss says American point guard Meg McConnell fits the club's needs after she arrived from the Bendigo Spirit. Jade Melbourne has left Canberra for the Victorian goldfields team after six years with the club. The Caps have kept three players from last season and added the rest of their 10-player roster. McConnell, who starred at Duquesne University and played in the WNBA, says she hopes to help the team reach a top-five playoff spot. The two clubs meet at the AIS Arena on 17 October in round one of the 2026-27 WNBL season.

Champion golfer Graham Marsh has returned to Kalgoorlie, his birthplace, for the WA PGA Championship. Marsh designed the Kalgoorlie Golf Course, which opened in 2010 at a cost of $18.5 million. He says the course is the first of its kind in Australia, with a desert setting and recycled water. The course has faced criticism over the cost to ratepayers and ongoing water shortages. The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has committed to sponsoring the tournament until 2031.

‘Catastrophic’ fire fears fail to switch off Brisbane apartment block’s EV charger

A Queensland adjudicator has rejected an urgent bid to switch off an electric vehicle charger at The Pavilion Apartments in Bulimba. Resident Kin Chen argued that the basement car park lacked fire safety systems to deal with a possible electric vehicle fire. The adjudicator found there was no immediate urgency, noting the charger has operated since about 2020. The body corporate committee had granted retrospective approval last month, with conditions including annual servicing. The broader challenge to that approval has yet to be decided, and the charger remains in use for now.

First-time farmer solves mulberry packing problem with dental drill

Retired dentist Peter Lynch has designed a $4 plastic basket that lets pickers pack mulberries directly into punnets. His Sunshine Coast hinterland farm, Kureelpa Mulberry Company, says the change has cut fruit damage by 80 per cent and reduced labour costs. The farm's four-week harvest depends on daily pickers, and the couple is concerned that cuts to working holiday visa numbers could make hiring difficult. Two French working holiday makers on the farm said a second year in Australia is uncertain.

New Queensland laws iron out legal loophole on pornographic deepfakes

Queensland's Attorney-General, Deb Frecklington, has introduced legislation to make creating non-consensual sexually explicit deepfakes a crime. Until now, state law banned sharing such images but not making them. The proposed maximum penalty is three years in jail for adults and 18 months for children. Ms Frecklington said schools were on the frontline, with harmful content generated by both students and teachers. The bill also widens the definition of intimate images to include non-genuine images.
