Cavka joins Newport

Key points

• Former AFL-listed player Damien Cavka has signed with Newport for the Western Football League division 1 season as a playing senior assistant coach. He stepped down as Coburg Districts senior coach earlier in the week to take on a higher-level role.
• Newport said Cavka previously coached its under-18.5s in 2024. In 2027 he will also join Richmond's VFL coaching staff as a development coach.
• Cavka said the decision to leave Coburg Districts was one of the hardest of his career.
